How Propaganda Affects the Public

It’s Psychology

The psychological effects behind propaganda makes a person more likely to respond to what they were previously exposed to as being fact. So whenever they come in contact with anything opposing and related to the former statement, they are most likely to disregard it as false, thinking of the former statement as the truth. This effect is the result of a type of priming.
Priming

In Psychology, priming is a technique in which the introduction of one stimulus influences how people respond to a subsequent stimulus.

In short, it is the process of storing memory so when exposed to something closely related, your mind connects them faster. It evokes your to think about what has been previously stored.

For example, chocolate would be one of the first words categorized if followed by the word candy, versus when it follows the word stapler.

A Cold War prime.
